The M22520/2-01 and M22520/7-01 are precision, miniature cycle-controlled hand crimp tools utilized for small-gauge wire terminations in high-reliability applications. While they serve different contact patterns, both tool frames share an identical mechanical design, utilize twist-lock positioners, and adhere to the exact same step-by-step operating and maintenance procedures.
Standard Operating Procedure for Miniature Crimp Tools (M22520/2-01 & M22520/7-01)

Step-by-Step Setup & Operation
- Positioner Installation: Select the correct interchangeable positioner as indicated on the Tool Selection Data page of your technical manual. Squeeze the tool handles completely together until the internal ratchet releases and the handles snap back into the fully open position. Note: The cycle-controlled ratchet mechanism will not release until the tool handles have been fully and completely closed. Insert the positioner into the retainer ring slots on the positioner lock plate, depress the bayonet assembly firmly, rotate it 90 degrees clockwise, and release to lock it into place.
- Calibrating Wire Size & Selector Settings: Determine the wire gauge (AWG) size to be terminated, which is usually stamped directly on the wire insulation jacket. Locate the integrated data plate affixed to the top of the positioner to find the correct numerical index setting for your wire gauge. Pull straight upward on the knurled selector knob and rotate it until the required numerical selector value aligns perfectly with the tool index mark.
- Executing the Crimp Cycle: Insert the un-crimped metal contact directly into the top indenter opening and down into the internal positioner bay. Insert your cleanly stripped conductor wire into the contact crimp barrel until it completely bottoms out. Squeeze the tool handles smoothly and fully together until the internal ratchet mechanism releases.
- Visual Quality Inspection: Remove the completed wire and crimped contact assembly from the tool. Visually inspect the contact to ensure the stripped conductor strands are completely visible through the contact inspection hole. Verify that the indenter marks sit cleanly within the physical shoulders of the contact crimp barrel.
- Tool Teardown: When maintenance procedures are complete, return the handles to the fully open position. Depress the positioner housing, rotate it 90 degrees counter-clockwise to disengage the bayonet tabs, and lift it clear of the tool frame.
- Storage: Wipe down all tool surfaces and replace the miniature crimp tool frame and its matching positioners back into their designated storage locations in the protective case.
⚠️ CRITICAL MAINTENANCE NOTICE: DO NOT OIL
DO NOT APPLY OIL, LIQUID LUBRICANTS, OR CLEANING SPRAYS TO THESE MINIATURE CRIMP TOOL FRAMES. The manufacturer applies a permanent dry graphite lubricant to the internal indenter linkages and ratchet teeth during factory calibration. Introducing liquid oils or penetrants has an adverse effect on this dry lubricant, causing immediate component binding, fluid gumming, and permanent tool calibration failure.
